My
Buddy Moose - Walt Fulps | ||
| In Memory of James Lyon, BTCS, USN Retired | ||
Jim Lyon passed away September 28, 2007. Jim served on the USS Cabildo from 1961 to 1967. Jim was a friend of mine, and to say I will miss him is an understatement, I miss him already. Moose is what we called him on the Cabildo; in 2000 he called me and said, Hey Doc, its Jim Lyon, Moose, from the Cabildo. Do you remember me? That was the first time Id heard from him since 1966 when I left the ship. And of course I remembered him. He went on to tell me about the Cabildo association and the upcoming reunion in Branson, MO. When we met up in Branson he was exactly the same, put on a couple of pounds, but he was the same old Moose. He could sure tell a sea story, I have many memories of our time together on the Cabildo, many of them cannot be written down . . . Jim was elected Treasurer at the Branson meeting; he served for seven years and left us with almost $20,000 in the kitty. Jim and Becky hosted the 2002 reunion in Charleston, SC. It was a very successful reunion. Moose will be missed by many of the Cabildo association, he was deeply loved and respected; he was a good man, father and husband. He was a good Buddy to all that knew him, rest in peace Buddy.
