On July 11th. I received an e-mail from Gene Maresca historian for the Everett F. Larson DD/DDR-830 informing me he had spotted the following obituary of one of our fellow crewmembers.   I am sorry to have to relate the news of our loss of Charlie Carrroll.

Rev. Charles D. Carroll, Sr., 85, was called to glory July 9, 2013. He was born September 28, 1927, in Indianapolis, IN, the son of Charles E. and LaVerne Carroll. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, and served in the Pacific on the USS Cabildo (LSD-16). He attended reunions of the ship's crew in many cities around the country. Before entering the ministry, he was a Senior Project Chemical Engineer at Allison Division of General Motors.

Over the years, he and his wife Dolores traveled extensively worldwide. Charles was a member of the Masonic Order, Scottish Rite, Shriners, and a fifty-year member of the Order of Eastern Star. He was active in the Walk to Emmaus, youth ministry, Sunday School, and many other activities. He was an avid fisherman and golfer.

He will be greatly missed by his wife of four years, Helen; daughters, Sue Ann (Phil) Coale of Punta Gorda, FL, Linda (Ben) Gatch of Zionsville, IN and Faye (Rev. Larry) Marhanka of Plymouth, IN; sons; Charles D. Carroll, Jr. of Carmel, IN, and John T. Carroll of Indianapolis, IN; fifteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Carolyn Wise of Grove City, FL, and brother, Michael P. Carroll of Lake Forest, CA. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Dolores V. Carroll.
