I was recently informed by a fellow Navy webmaster that he had come accross an obituary for USS Cabildo crewmember and Cammanding Officer Warren D. Dietrichson. I was able to locate his obituary which is listed below.

         
 

Commander Warren Douglas Dietrichson, US Navy(retired) died in Salem, Oregon on December 10, 2013 at the age of 91. He was born October 1, 1922 in Hollis, New York to Thomas and R. Cecile(Thomsen) Dietrichson. He was appointed to the Naval Academy from the Naval Reserve graduating with the Class of 1946 in June of 1945. He was on the varsity rifle team. His first assignment was as a Turret Officer on the USS Washington. On June 22, 1945 he married Helen Marie Davis in Jacksonville, Florida. In 1947 he attended Submarine School serving on submarines Sea Cat, Sea Owl, Sennet, Marlin(C.O.) and Chivo(C.O.). He was assigned to the Naval Academy from 1959 to 1962 as 5th Company Officer and 3rd Battalion Officer. Following that he served as Exec. Officer on Montrose(APA212) and C.O. of Cabildo(LSD 16). Prior to his retirement in 1967 he was Chief Staff Officer of Phibron Five. In 1968 he obtained his license as Chief Mate and continued at sea as 3rd, 2nd and Chief Mate on dry cargo vessels. His license was upgraded to Unlimited Master Any Gross Tons in 1972, after which he served as Chief Mate or Master of a number of offshore oil supply vessels around the world. In 1984 he retired as Master of Oregon State research vessel Wecoma in Newport. He moved to Salem in 2000 with his wife.

Warren was preceded in death by his parents; sister: Cecile Kandrat; a niece; and in 2005 his wife. Survivors are daughters: Deanna(Scott) Blackburn of Portland, Oregon and Wendy(William) Jernigan of Newport, Oregon; brother, Robert Dietrichson of Hauppauge, New York; granddaughter, Amy Day of Portland, Oregon; grandsons: Jesse(Monica) Jernigan of Ridgecrest, California, Taylor Jernigan of Waldport, Oregon; great grandchildren: Ariel Bennet and Ian Day, both from Portland, Oregon , Jesse Jernigan Jr. and Hollie Jernigan, both from Ridgecrest, California; and great-great granddaughter, Rory Bennet of Portland, Oregon; two nephews and four nieces.

Interment was at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon.

     

From another source I found this interesting additional information.

Warren enlisted in August of 1940 and received his recruit training at NTS Norfolk. While attending Avaition Radioman School at NAS Jacksonville, FL, he received orders to the Naval Academy Preparatory School in Norfolk. After passing the entrance exams he was admitted to Naval Acadmy in July 1942 as a member of the class of 1946.
